Mockba Mcdonald’s

November 7, 2011 by Sarah

You know how sometimes you are so busy and life feels so taxing that you just want something to be easy? Today was one of those days.

We have been diligently unpacking boxes for the past 5 days straight. We estimate that we are responsible for about half the material in the large recycling dumpster on compound. We have put together shelving and every flat surface at home has stuff on it. Well, the packers who packed us out from Houston were kind enough to call it decor so I will too. Kitchen decor, den decor, fragile decor– you get the picture.

There is only one shelving unit that we haven’t been able to put together, because the screws didn’t make it here. So we needed to buy screws, so we can put the shelving together, so the art/craft supplies have a place to call home, so I can start using the homeschool room.  Now, there are Home Depot-type stores here, but you need a car to get there. And I haven’t been able to find a toilet cleaning brush, so I felt their was no hope of finding wood screws or even a hardware store.

And then I remembered that someone on compound had decorated for Halloween with black lights and they said they had bought them at a large store just past a McDonald’s that’s not too far.

Being as tired of unpacking boxes, cleaning dishes and finding homes for decor as we were, it didn’t take more than a mere suggestion of heading out to find that store to get Travis on board. And when I mentioned that we could maybe stop at the McDonald’s for an easy dinner on the way home he headed straight upstairs to get his boots on. Of course, getting everyone else’s boots on took another 40 minutes, but then we were ready!

It was only 32F today, so it felt warmer on our walk and we really enjoyed ourselves. We found the store that we were looking for; turns out it is more of an indoor booth-type mall with merchants offering a variety of home goods like tvs, toilets, computers, lightbulbs, batteries, vacuums, etc.– each stall selling mostly one kind of good. We easily found someone who had screws and bought more than what we needed. Because we like having extra, um, decor around the house.

Then we made our way to the McDonald’s, where upon fretting over how to read the menu, we were greeted by a friendly young lady who spoke to us in ENGLISH! Praise the Lord for her! We found a seat, unpeeled our coats, and enjoyed a tasty dinner around a table. We’ve been eating on the couches so everything about our experience was comfortable and very welcome to our weary bodies and minds.
